Lionel Messi signed new contract with MLS Club Inter Miami

In a groundbreaking move, soccer legend Lionel Messi has officially signed with Inter Miami, an esteemed MLS club, as announced by the team on Saturday. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, whose contract extends until the conclusion of the 2025 MLS season, expressed his immense excitement, while co-owner David Beckham described the signing as the realization of a lifelong dream.

Messi, who recently clinched the World Cup with Argentina, shared his enthusiasm for the new chapter in a statement, saying, “This presents a fantastic opportunity, and together, we will continue to foster this extraordinary project. The objective is to work collaboratively to achieve the goals we have set, and I am eager to make my contribution in my new home.”

Fans eagerly await Messi’s anticipated debut with Inter Miami, which is scheduled for July 21 in the inaugural match of the Leagues Cup against LIGA MX side, Cruz Azul.

Reflecting on the momentous occasion, former Real Madrid and Manchester United star Beckham stated, “Ten years ago, when I embarked on the journey of building a new team in Miami, I voiced my dream of bringing the world’s greatest players to this remarkable city. Players who share the ambition I had when I joined LA Galaxy to help cultivate football in the USA and establish a legacy for future generations in this beloved sport. Today, that dream has come true. I couldn’t be prouder to have a player of Leo’s caliber join our club, and I am equally thrilled to welcome a dear friend, an extraordinary individual, and his wonderful family to our Inter Miami community. The next phase of our adventure begins now, and I am eager to witness Leo’s brilliance on the field.”

Disclosures of contract with Inter Miami

Earlier this month, Inter Miami part-owner Jorge Mas disclosed to Spanish publication El Pais that Messi’s contract is valued between $50 to $60 million per year. Reports suggest that the agreement encompasses an option for Messi to become a partial owner of the club, as well as a share of revenue generated by new subscribers to Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass streaming service.

As per the club’s earlier announcement, Lionel Messi’s contract spans over two and a half seasons and guarantees an annual compensation ranging from $50 million to $60 million, resulting in a remarkable cash value of $125 million to $150 million for the entire duration.

Prior to his tenure at Inter Miami, Messi spent the past two years at French club Paris Saint-Germain. Before that, the Argentine maestro devoted over two decades to Spanish giants Barcelona, securing an impressive 10 La Liga titles and winning the Champions League four times.

Last December, Messi played a pivotal role in Argentina’s triumph at the World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first player to twice receive the prestigious Golden Ball award, bestowed upon the tournament’s best player.
